One of the most widely available and underrated local edibles is Dandelions!
Dandelion is a highly nutritious, edible plant often used in culinary applications (salads, teas, wines) and traditional medicine, particularly to support liver health, improve digestion, and act as a natural diuretic. Every part of the plant—roots, leaves, and flowers—can be consumed or used.
Leaves: Can be eaten raw, or boiled/sauteed.
Flowers: Used to make wine, beer, and fritters, or added to salads.
Roots: Roasted and ground to make a caffeine-free coffee substitute, or brewed into tea.
Skin Care: Infused in oils for topical application to soothe skin irritation.
Digestive Aid: Acts as a bitter tonic to stimulate appetite and bile production, enhancing digestion and relieving constipation.
Liver & Gallbladder: Traditionally used to aid liver function and support the treatment of gallstones and gallbladder inflammation.
Nutrient Boost: Leaves are rich in vitamins A, C, and K, along with calcium, potassium, and iron.
These hand painted bags are made with an insulated and easy to clean lining, and a durable non-woven cloth. My designs are largely inspired by our surroundings here in interior Alaska, and the wealth of sustenance in our natural world. My original painted bags were for personal use, and intended to meet specific needs. With the spirit of utility in mind, I want to share them with others.
The small size is perfect for your lunch, a foraging excursion, a six-pack of drinks, or snacks and bottles/sippy cups for your little one.
