Canvas

I’ve been sitting here trying to pinpoint when exactly I started painting, and I can’t. For many years, my preferred medium was pencil and charcoal. Most of my teen years were spent with a sketchbook in hand, and angsty demons to give form to.

However, I always dabbled with paint. I didn’t start taking it seriously until my early twenties, when I switched almost exclusively to canvas work. I tried oils and found them incredibly forgiving, except when it came to dog fur and cat paws. That alone drove me from them and into acrylics. The faster dry time suited my life better and I have been enjoying them since.

My subjects, themes, inspirations, and styles have ranged over the years. The common threads are nature and emotional release. The two are intertwined fairly often, with varying degrees of subtlety. Whether more physical landscape, or more mental landscape, one of my greatest joys in life is seeing a look of recognition in someone’s eyes when they view my work. A moment where they see something that strikes a cord with them, reminds them of a part of them, or otherwise requires a moment to process.
